A seated man in dark robes clutches one gold coin tightly against his chest with both arms, balances a second pentacle on the crown of his head, and pins two more firmly beneath his feet, so all four coins are pressed close and none can slip away. He sits on a small stone block just outside a grey town, whose rooftops rise behind him. The grasping, closed posture and the way every coin is held down speak of security guarded too jealously. Pentacles are the suit of Earth, of money and possessions, and here that energy has frozen into hoarding and control. The crowned coin shows wealth ruling his thoughts, the held coin a heart shut tight, the trodden coins a refusal to let anything move, a warning that holding on too hard can leave you stuck.
