How to read your birth chart

What a birth chart is

A birth (natal) chart maps where every planet sat in the sky at your exact moment of birth. To cast it accurately you need your birth date, time and place — the time matters because it sets your houses and rising sign.

The one formula to remember

Every placement in your chart reads like a little sentence. For example, “Mars in Aries in the 10th house” = your drive (Mars), expressed boldly and directly (Aries), in the area of career (10th house) → a fierce, pioneering ambition at work.

Start with your “Big 3”

Don't try to read everything at once. Beginners start with three placements that capture most of your personality:

Then: aspects (how planets talk to each other)

Aspects are the angles between planets — they show which energies cooperate and which clash. The basics:

• Conjunction (same spot) — energies blend and intensify.
• Trine & sextile — easy flow, natural gifts.
• Square & opposition — tension and growth; the friction that builds you.

A simple way to begin

• Find your Big 3 (Sun, Moon, Rising) and read each.
• Spot any “stelliums” — 3+ planets bunched in one sign or house. That area is a major life theme.
• Note your 2nd & 8th houses for money, your 7th for love, your 10th for career.
• Read placements as sentences using the Planet + Sign + House formula.
