Masculine and feminine energies live in everyone.
The Law of Gender is the twelfth and final universal law — and one of the most frequently misunderstood. It states that everything in existence contains both masculine and feminine energies, and that creation, at every level, requires their interplay. This has nothing to do with biological sex, gender identity or any social category. It describes two principles — two fundamental modes of energy — that operate in all things, in all beings, at all times.
The Kybalion describes it: "Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes." In Taoism, the same principle is encoded as yin (feminine) and yang (masculine). In Hindu philosophy, Shakti (feminine, creative power) and Shiva (masculine, pure consciousness) are two aspects of the same divine whole. The Law of Gender is universal — it appears in every contemplative tradition, in every culture, as a recognition that reality is fundamentally generative and that generation requires both principles.
Masculine energy is active, directional, structuring, initiating, discerning. It is the principle of form, of "doing," of focused action in the world. It brings structure, clarity, will and execution.
Feminine energy is receptive, nurturing, creative, intuitive, allowing. It is the principle of space, of "being," of the fertile ground in which things grow. It brings depth, imagination, flow, intuition and gestation.
Neither is superior. Neither can create alone. Like a seed and soil, masculine and feminine energy must come together for something new to emerge. An excess of masculine — constant doing, pushing, controlling, no space for rest or intuition — produces burnout, rigidity and eventual depletion. An excess of feminine — constant waiting, dreaming, receiving, no directed action — produces stagnation, unrealised potential and frustration.
The idea arrives in the feminine (receptive, intuitive, spacious) mode. The execution happens in the masculine (structured, directed, disciplined). Both are needed. Over-relying on structure kills creativity; over-relying on flow never completes anything.
Healthy relating requires both energies in dynamic balance: the ability to initiate and to receive, to be direct and to be spacious, to protect and to soften. Relationships where one person holds all the masculine and one all the feminine become rigid and unequal.
You set an intention (masculine: directed, clear) and then hold space for it to develop (feminine: receptive, trusting, not forcing). You take inspired action (masculine: movement, initiative) and then allow what arises (feminine: receiving, adapting). Creation is the dance between the two.

Masculine excess shows up as: constant busyness, difficulty resting, discomfort with uncertainty, controlling behaviour, trouble receiving. Feminine excess shows up as: difficulty initiating, waiting for perfect conditions, saying yes when you mean no, dreaming without executing, over-giving and under-directing. Most people recognise themselves in one pattern fairly readily.
Everything. Manifestation requires both the masculine principle (clear intention, directed action, structure) and the feminine principle (spacious allowing, trust, gestation, receiving). Focusing only on "doing" and "forcing" is masculine without feminine. Focusing only on "believing" and "feeling" without action is feminine without masculine. Effective creation requires both working together.
Yes — very directly. The Taoist yin-yang symbol encodes the same principle: yin (feminine, dark, receptive, moon) and yang (masculine, light, active, sun) are not opposites but complementary aspects of the same whole, each containing a seed of the other, each requiring the other to be complete. The Law of Gender and yin-yang theory express the same fundamental insight in different cultural vocabularies.
