Mangal Dosha — also called Manglik dosha, Kuja dosha or Chevvai dosham — is a placement of Mars (Mangal) in certain houses of your Vedic chart. A person is traditionally called Manglik when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house — counted from the Lagna (ascendant), and also checked from the Moon and from Venus.
Because Mars rules energy, courage and passion, these houses touch marriage, home and partnership — which is why the dosha is most talked about around matchmaking. But here is the honest part: Mangal Dosha is extremely common — by these rules, a large share of people are Manglik. It is not a curse, and it is not a verdict on your love life.
Classical astrology lists many ways the dosha is softened or cancelled — Manglik dosha bhang. The most common: if both partners are Manglik, the dosha cancels out; if Mars sits in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or is exalted (Capricorn); with age (many say the effect fades after ~28); and with the blessing of Jupiter or the Moon by aspect. This is why a real reading looks at the whole chart, never one factor alone.
