What never leaves your device
Your journal, your name and the thread of your conversations with Wooly live in your browser's local storage. That is not a figure of speech: it is space the browser sets aside for the site, on your machine. We cannot read it, no copy exists on our servers, and clearing your browser data deletes it — for you and for us alike.
The consequence cuts both ways, and it is better to know it: without an account, switching phones means your journal does not follow you. That is the price of storage that never passes through us.
What goes to the AI and what does not come back
When you ask Wooly a question, or ask for a reflection on a journal entry, the text is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, for as long as it takes to write the reply. That is the only moment it leaves your device, it is only sent when you trigger the action, and we do not store it on the way through.
No online tarot can skip this step: without sending your question to a model, nothing personal can be written back. So the real question is not whether your text goes somewhere — it is who receives it, and what they do with it afterwards. A service that will not name its provider leaves you no way to check.
What we keep only if you ask
A reading is stored only when you press “Save my reading”. In that case, and only then, we keep your question — at most 1,000 characters, the field's limit, and never more — the cards drawn, a 300-character summary of the reply, the spread type and the language. That is what lets Wooly remember where you were last time.
Nothing else of the reading is kept: not the full text of the reply, not whatever conversation followed it. And if you are not signed in, the save is attached to a key generated on your own device rather than to an email address.
How long and who deletes it
A saved reading is kept for three years, then deleted. Technical logs are cleared after twelve months. Those deletions run as a daily automated job — which is to say they happen whether or not anyone remembers, the only way a promise like this is ever actually kept.

Five questions to ask any AI tarot site
Can you draw without creating an account? If signup comes before service, the email is the product.
Is the AI provider named? “We use artificial intelligence” is not an answer. A name lets you go and read that provider's policy yourself.
Is the retention period a number? “As long as necessary” means nothing. Look for months or years.
Is saving a choice or the default? A service that stores everything by default needs your history. One that asks leaves you the choice.
Do you know exactly what is stored? “Your readings” is vague. A list — the question, the cards, a summary — can be checked.
